Frederick Quiel is an international student from Panama. He is currently studying architecture at Tongji University in Shanghai, China. When the pandemic emerged earlier this year, Frederick went home to Panama in February, but he is currently taking online classes at Tongji.
Frederick has a long-standing interest for China since he was young. He was very curious of Chinese culture and he loved eating Chinese food. Read 12 unique facts about Chinese food here. Frederick also made projects about China and watched Chinese movies.
When Frederick heard that the Chinese Embassy in Panama was awarding scholarships for international students, he decided to give it a shot. He travelled to Panama’s capital and submitted his application.
“So I arrived at the embassy and there was a really long line. When I was interviewed by the ambassador, he liked my curriculum vitae and I was accepted to study in China. It was an amazing opportunity.”
