Accommodation

A furnished one-bedroom apartment in a good location rents for $248-$368 monthly.

Food

Fast food combos cost $5.21, while inexpensive restaurant meals run $3.71; mid-range dinners for two are about $22.90.

Transportation

Public transport monthly passes cost $12.20; taxi rides average $4.75 for 8km.

Utilities

Utilities which include electricity, heating, gas and water can range from $24-$37; per month depending on usage. Data, messaging and internet will cost you $12 to $70 per month.

Education

Two of Xiamen’s most popular universities include Xiamen and Jimei University. Xiamen University in particular, has a picturesque campus located between the sea and the “Five Old Men” mountains. Its campus is one of the most breath-taking in China. Yearly tuition can range from $5,600 to $11,100.

Miscellaneous expenses

Clothes, personal care and entertainment costs will depend on how much you spend on it every month. In Xiamen, you can spend as low as $2.10 for a beer in your neighborhood to $64 for a pair of jeans. A 15-minute visit to a private doctor can cost you $21.

Average monthly cost of living

For a single person, total living costs average $707 (with rent) or $399 without.
