In China, summer starts in June and ends in August. It’s a time when flowers are in full bloom, the sunshine tans your skin and students are on a break from school.
Chinese summer is full of holidays and festivals. It’s definitely a great time to relax from studying and unwind. While summer means freedom and enjoyment, Chinese summer can be summed in one word: HOT!
One of the best ways to relieve the hot weather is to have ice cream in China!

It’s summertime now here in Beijing. 35°C /95°F today! Except for air-conditioning, one thing I can’t live without is the ice cream in China during the hot summer.
Recently, the double egg ice cream bar became viral on social media. So this week, I would like to talk about ice creams.
Here are Chinese words you can say when buying ice cream in China:
- 雪糕 (xuěgāo) ice cream bar
- 双黄蛋雪糕 (shuānghuángdàn xuěgāo) double egg ice cream bar
- 雪人 (xuéren) doll head ice cream bar
- 冰棍儿 (bīnggùnr) popsicle
- 蛋筒 (dàntǒng) ice cream cone
- 冰淇淋 (bīngqílín) ice cream
