Opening Ceremony Held for TIEMBA Class of 2025

To warmly welcome new students and future business leaders from China and abroad, the opening ceremony for Tsinghua SEM Executive MBA (EMBA) 2023, Tsinghua-INSEAD EMBA (TIEMBA) Class of 2025 and Tsinghua SEM Media Programme was held in the Auditorium of Tsinghua University on August 30th. It was the first time that TIEMBA students located around the world were able to attend the event in person since the pandemic. The ceremony was moderated by Professor XUE Jian, Associate Dean at School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University  (Tsinghua SEM), was attended by CHEN Yubo, Senior Associate Dean at Tsinghua SEM; PEYER Urs, Dean of Degree Programmes at INSEAD; CHEN Zhangwu, President of the Gansu Xinghua Scholarship Foundation; GAO Feng, Associate Dean at Tsinghua SEM and other distinguished guests.

In the opening remarks, Professor CHEN Yubo welcomed the new students and emphasized the importance of “entrepreneurship” in the face of global changes. He highlighted the need for innovation, caring for humankind, and inclusion of diverse cultures. “Entrepreneurship is the engine of economic development. The mission of our EMBA programmes is to cultivate business leaders not only standing on the technology frontiers but also contributing to the development of our whole society,” said CHEN. CHEN also showcased how Tsinghua SEM EMBA has shouldered their social responsibilities by supporting the schools in the underdeveloped areas of China and helping the local communities consistently over many years.

“The TIEMBA programme fits really well with INSEAD’s mission – to bring together people, cultures and ideas from around the world and to help and empower leaders to establish bridges between nations and cultures by creating businesses together.” Professor PEYER Urs, Dean of Degree Programmes at INSEAD, also extended his warm welcome to the new participants and encouraged them to make full use of their learnings from the programme to advance business prosperity in a socially and environmentally sustainable and impactful way.

In addition to the alumni representative of the EMBA programme, four students from the new cohort of the EMBA programme, the TIEMBA programme, and the Media programme delivered speeches. They expressed excitement in studying at Tsinghua and determination to start again as students devoting themselves to professional knowledge and practice in the next two years.“I fell in love with China since I first came here in 2015 and I have been deeply impressed by China’s remarkable economic development over the years and seen many Chinese companies take leading positions in the world. Today is just like a dream come true for me as I have this opportunity to study at this most prestigious university in China. Let’s fight together to realize our dreams!” VERLIAN Nitin from Emirates NBD Bank in Dubai, as the representative of the TIEMBA 2025, delivered his speech in Mandarin. He highlighted the international experience provided by the TIEMBA programme, which serves as a bridge between the East and the West, enabling students to learn alongside peers from different countries and regions.

The ceremony continued with the second orientation part, moderated by KANG Yi, LI Simeng, and LI Chan, representing Tsinghua SEM EMBA, TIEMBA, and Tsinghua SEM Media programme, respectively.During this session, JIA Li, Director of Tsinghua SEM EMBA Programmes, traced back the history of the Tsinghua SEM EMBA programmes. She pointed out that although the Tsinghua SEM EMBA and TIEMBA programmes are quite young within this  century-old prestigious university, they are consistently acknowledged as the leading EMBA programmes in China and the world. “It is the continuous innovation in the curriculum design and the dedication of our faculty that make such achievements possible,” said Jia.

Welcoming its 17th cohort made up of 34 high-achieving executives, the TIEMBA programme has accumulated around 650 alumni from 49 different countries and regions in Asia, Europe, America, Oceania, and Africa. The students come from many diverse industry backgrounds, including finance, healthcare, technology, internet and  information service, manufacturing, energy, retail and agriculture. 91 percent of the students are in management positions overseeing international business and 41 percent are female. For many years, TIEMBA has been consistently recognized among the top 100 EMBA programmes by Financial Times and the QS EMBA Joint Programmes. Known for its strong faculty, diverse international student body, and teaching philosophy and mode combining Chinese and Western styles, the programme seemlessly combines the best of local education resources with the diverse perspectives of global business schools.

Following the opening ceremony, Professor PEYER and Professor LU Yao, Deputy Head of Tsinghua SEM Finance Department, Academic Director of TIEMBA, hosted a TIEMBA programme introduction session to the new joiners to the TIEMBA community, to provide a more in-depth understanding of the programme and help the participants to prepare and to kick off their TIEMBA journey.
