As one of the biggest cities, Shanghai is a developed area for higher education. It has a wide range of international exchange programs and a large international student population.

Shanghai has more than 50 institutions of higher learning, from top-level institutes to smaller colleges, and is home to some prestigious universities such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Tongji University, Shanghai University and many others.
