Student Life at Westlake
Dormitory and Accommodation
The four-year residential college system at Westlake’s brand-new and modern Yungu Campus goes beyond housing. Undergraduates also receive academic advising, and become part of a supportive community that offers a wealth of extracurriculars and fosters close relationships with peers as well as junior and senior students.
Current students live in furnished double suites with a shared living room, balcony and bathroom. At Westlake, Chinese and international undergraduates room together in the dormitories. This arrangement fosters intercultural communication and helps international students learn about Chinese culture and practice the Chinese language, creating a unique interdisciplinary global community.
Once campus construction is fully completed in 2024, the four residential colleges at Westlake will house quiet study areas, cafes, multimedia rooms, event spaces and much more, and accommodate up to 2,200 undergraduates.
Clubs and Organizations
At Westlake, students can participate in dozens of student clubs and organizations that encompass diverse interests — from tai chi, art, calligraphy and Chinese traditional medicine to AI, media and bioinformatics – or they can even choose to start their own group.
Chinese Language Studies
All international Westlake students are required to take two or more years of Chinese language classes. Mandarin proficiency can help international students not only navigate basic life in China but also better engage with the Chinese scientific and research community. Higher fluency also opens up future internship and work opportunities at Chinese companies.
