Professor BAI Chong-En extended a warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the new students in his remarks, and said that students should “move from vanity to reality”, and to be pragmatic and down-to-earth during their study at Tsinghua University.

He emphasized four points: having the attitude of contributing to society, expanding international scopes, adhering to the method of combining theory with practice, and continuing visionary thinking. The challenges of the times test the responsibility and commitment of every Tsinghua student. Regardless of their age or position, Professor BAI hopes that every Tsinghua EMBA student will uphold the aspiration of Tsinghua students to pursue excellence and cherish the ideal of the world, and contribute their wisdom amid scientific and technological progress, national development and industrial transformation.

The school’s EMBA programme has been ranked top among all the EMBA programmes in China for nine consecutive years by the Manager magazine. The TIEMBA programme, on the other hand, has been focusing on creating world’s top global business learning experience since its founding in 2007. When ROSE Philippe, student representative for TIEMBA Class of 2024, learned that his class would continue hybrid learning due to Covid restrictions, he had doubts at first. But as his classmates started getting to know each other, it gradually dawned on ROSE that there is something unique about learning under imperfect circumstances.

“We already started building bridges across our different industries, functions and even countries, despite quarantines and health codes,” said ROSE. “So, this is what matters: creating a great journey with all the challenges we are faced with. This is how we can be effective leaders with the much bigger challenges all round: those that require us to reach out beyond ourselves in business, the economy, and international stability.”

In addition, Professor CHEN Zhangwu, former senior associate dean of Tsinghua SEM, and Professor LIU Qing, head of the graduate working group of Tsinghua SEM also gave speeches at the ceremony.

Over 380 students attended the ceremony at the School of Economics and Management in person, with students joining online from across China and the world. The new cohort of TIEMBA Class of 2024 consists of 36 students from 11 countries and regions. Congratulations again! A wonderful, challenging journey lies ahead.
