- In another event, a student team from Hong Kong Metropolitan University’s School of Science and Technology, in collaboration with Hong Yip Service Company Ltd., earned widespread acclaim for their “Digital Twin (Mixed Reality) Adoption for Improving Training and Inspection Processes in New Buildings” project. Securing a Bronze Award at the CLP and IET Hong Kong’s Energy-Saving and Low-Carbon Innovation Competition and Certificates of Merit at the IFMA Asia Pacific Awards 2024, the team’s innovative Mixed Reality platform enhances building inspection efficiency. Supervised by Dr Jimmy LI Chi-ho, this project exemplifies HKMU’s commitment to pioneering technology, solidifying its role in advancing sustainable and innovative facility management solutions.
- From 22 to 27 October 2023, Civil Engineering students Lam Ka Chun, Ricky, and Liu Kei Yiu, Clarice, participated in the Institution of Civil Engineers Hong Kong Association (ICE HKA) Graduates and Students South Korea Delegation 2023. Recognised as recipients of the student prize, each received a HKD$3,000 sponsorship to cover the programme. - A group of over 40 students from the disciplines of Cybersecurity, Electronics, Computer Science, Data Science & AI, and Business participated in an enriching visit to the PCCW HKT headquarters, gaining the insights shared by HKT professionals and HKMU alumni. The mock interviews and candid discussions about career pathways provided significant benefits to the students.
- A 2-year QEM-funded pilot project entitled “Service Learning x Design Thinking: Empower Empathy Through Technology” was launched to deepen the empathetic comprehension of the Electronic & Computer Engineering and Cybersecurity students through AgriTech deployment & volunteer work in village in Guangdong Province, China.
- The School arranged a technical visit to the Hospital Authority Community Rehabilitation Service Support Centre (CRSSC), a specialised centre that connects patients with special needs to the innovative & interdisciplinary applications of technology for advancing ability, to enrich the knowledge of S&T students through out-of-class activities.
