Introduction to the Program

Non-native English speaking international students that meet the academic entry requirements would normally enter “SBC Year 1” (International Foundation Year) together with the local Chinese students unless they have the appropriate IELTS equivalent grade required. They would focus on learning English for Academic Purposes as well as basic introductory classes for either business or engineering related subjects depending on the student’s preference. Successful students may then progress into SBC Year 2, (equivalent to Year 1 of the 3-years bachelors programme in the UK). SBC Year 1 is accepted as transferable credit for direct entry into Year 1 of the 3-Year UK bachelor degree at a large number of British universities.

The Sino-British College (SBC) is an international university college, jointly established by the University of Shanghai for Science & Technology (USST), and 9 leading British Universities – NCUK Universities. The College offers a number of programs to international students in English. This includes 1 year foundation programs in English, and a large number of mixed programs with some time spent in Shanghai, and the rest at a University in UK. (2+1) – 2 Years in Shanghai and 2 Years in UK, or (1+2) 1 year in Shanghai and 2 years in UK.

What is 1+2? What is 2+1?

1+2 means that the first year is taught in Shanghai, the second and third years can be taught at a UK University.
2+1 means that the first two years are taught in Shanghai, the third year is taught at a UK University.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants must normally be 17 years of age by 30th September in the year of entry to SBC Year 1. They must have completed 12 years of school education including completion of year 12 and achieved a satisfactory level of pass in the Year 12 school leaving examinations.

Application Deadline:

There is no official application deadline, students can apply up until the start of the program, but are advised to apply earlier as applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and students need to take time to process their student visa.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for the foundation program is 80,000 RMB.
