About the Program

This postgraduate programme represents a one year full-time (or part-time) advanced study of the current state of scholarship in language study and linguistics, with a particular emphasis on English language teaching and pedagogical applications. It provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary and sub-disciplinary dimensions of linguistics, and offers students the ability to develop a critical facility in applying theoretical models and frameworks in language study. It draws on students’ teaching experience and encourages reflection and development in pedagogy. It differs from its sister MA in Applied Linguistics only in the experience brought by the student to the programme, and in the dissertation topic required.

Students take 180 credits worth of modules, including the dissertation element (60c). Students are required to take the module Approaches to Language and Linguistics (15c) and the module Research Methods in Applied Linguistics (15c).
