Introduction to the Program

The PhD in Chemistry at Northwest University is a 3 year program (that can be extended to up to 7 years) taught in English. Students can focus on the following areas: Inorganic Chemistry Analytical Chemistry Organic Chemistry Physical Chemistry Polymer Chemistry and Physics Chemical Biology Materials Chemistry Analytical Chemistry

Program Objective:

The objective of the PhD program in Chemistry is to provide theoretical and experimental training for students who would like to pursue a career in modern chemistry research. Students participate in dynamic research and experience the satisfaction of making original contributions to the advancement of chemistry and related disciplines. Research projects focus on topics at the forefronts of Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry and Physics, as well as Chemical Biology. The program is taught in English. So we require the students to have a basic knowledge of professional English in Chemistry.

About the Chemistry Department:

The chemistry discipline of Northwest University the earliest centre cultivating chemical talent in the western China, got its origin in 1923.It was named as Chemistry Department in 1937,and the College of Chemistry and Materials Science in 2008. The College is located on the north campus of the university. Current enrolment includes 600 full-time undergraduate and 300 full-time graduate students. The college lays emphasis on teaching and research, and places the training of undergraduate and graduate students as important as the status of place. The college consists of 3 departments: Department of Chemistry, Department of Materials Chemistry, and Department of Chemical Biology. Based on the nation’s base for cultivating chemical talent and the national chemical experiment teaching demonstration centre, undergraduate teaching was organized under 4majors:chemistry,applied chemistry, materials chemistry, and chemical biology, of which chemistry major is a national excellent major. The college has its doctoral program in chemistry discipline, offering programs leading to the PhD degree in the fields of analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical and materials chemistry, polymer chemistry and physics, and chemical biology.

Tuition Fees:
