Introduction to the Program

The China Studies Master Program at Nanjing University is a 2-3 year program for international students taught in English.

About the Program

This program offers international students the chance to delve into learning about China’s economy, philosophy, history, culture, education, the development of contemporary Chinese society, and other fields, as well as a comparative perspective to other countries.

The program will consist of three main focuses:
1) Chinese Philosophy and History
2) Chinese Society and Economy
3) Chinese Language, Culture, and Literature

Nanjing University has a long history of teaching international students, and has already trained many talented students in international politics, economics, culture, among other subjects.

Entry Requirements

Bachelors Degree.
English-speaking students.
For non-English speaking applicants, English proficiency is required: TOEFL (paper test) 600 points , or 95 points on the new TOEFL, or 6.5 on the IELTS.

Curriculum

From the high-caliber academic resources and vast disciplines of Nanjing University including from culture, history, philosophy, political, social, and economic fields, the Institute for International Students has organized a 16 credit curriculum to be taught in English, by relevant Nanjing University professors, in addition to inviting experts and professionals from at home and abroad.

4. History of PRC
5. Chinese Culture and Modern Chinese Society
6. Foreign Policies of PRC
7. Hot Issues of Present-day China
8. Case Studies of Chinese and Western Philosophy and Culture
9. Chinese Art
10. Chinese Minority and Religious beliefs
11. Studies of Republic of China
12. Selected Readings from Chinese Classics
13. Selected Readings on Western Sinology
14. Studies of Chinese Social Behaviors
15. Poetry of the Tang Dynasty
16. Modern and Contemporary Chinese Writers
17. Popular Culture and Contemporary Chinese Literature
18. Chinese Economy and the WTO
19. Natural Resources, Environment and Economic Development in the Yangtze Delta Region
20. Recent Development of China’s Science and Technology

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees are RMB 23,000 per year. The total for the 3 year program is RMB 69,000.

Accommodation

There are two campuses in Nanjing University: Gulou Campus which is located in downtown Nanjing and Xianlin Campus which is located 20 kilometers away from Gulou campus. All non-degree language students and some degree students are assigned to study in Gulou campus. For full information see the accommodation page here.

To apply complete the application form and pay the application fee here. Applications take 4-6 weeks before a decision is given, and students are accepted on a rolling basis.
