About the Program

The International Ph.D. Program in Educational Leadership and Policy (Comparative Education) for International Students is a unique program offered by the Institute of International and Comparative Education at Beijing Normal University with support from the Institute of International Education at Stockholm University. This program, with generous financial support from the Chinese Government, is designed to train talented individuals who can contribute to globalization and internationalization in the fields of educational management, leadership, and policy worldwide, and enhance educational and cultural exchange between China and other countries.

The program is focused on a series of contemporary issues of educational management, leadership, and policy that are relevant to all countries, especially developing nations, as well as the international organization. Based on the rich international resources of the Institute of International and Comparative Education at Beijing Normal University and the Institute of International Education at Stockholm University, it has a strong team of professors and faculty members and aims to become a high quality and world-class international program.

The program aims to train talented individuals from all over the world so that they will develop a deep understanding of educational theories and acquire a wide knowledge of fundamental policy trends in educational reform and development worldwide. The program aims to meet the demands of the international labor market by training individuals who have independent educational research capabilities, highly developed international communication and educational management and leadership skills and will go on to work in international organizations, governmental authorities, NGOs, research institutions, higher education institutions, and related areas.

Entry Requirements

• Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health
• Applicants should not be a registered student at a China’s university at the time of application or a graduating degree student at a China’s university who plan to apply for the 2018 entry into the doctoral program
• Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40

Application Materials

1. Applicants must first visit http://apply.bnu.edu.cn/ and complete the online application procedure. The following application materials should be posted or sent in person to BNU International Students Office by April 30^th, 2018.
2. BNU Application Form for International Student (on completion of the online application form it must be downloaded and printed. Please stick the photo and ensure that the application form is signed by the applicant and his/her guarantor.
3. Recommendation letters from two associate professors or scholars with higher academic titles. There is no specified format for the recommendation letters and all letters must be signed by the referee.
4. Completed Personal Statement Form
5. Applicants for Master’s Degree programs should submit an original or notarized copy of their undergraduate academic transcripts and Bachelor’s degree certificate and graduation certificate (in Chinese or English) Applicants for Ph.D. programs should submit an original or notarized copy of their postgraduate results transcript, Master’s degree certificate (in Chinese or English), and the Chinese abstract of their Master’s degree dissertation. Applicants who will graduate in 2018 must submit Expectation Certificate of Graduation. After being admitted by the University, the documents must be submitted when registering in BNU. Otherwise, the admission will be canceled.
6. HSK certificate and results transcript or other documents which prove the applicant’s Chinese language proficiency
7. 600 RMB Application fee. Please pay it online or by cash. The application fee is needed for a scholarship application.
8. One passport-sized photo (not include the one on the form, with the name of the applicant and the faculty/department applied for written on the back)
9. Two photocopies of applicant’s passport information page (this must be a valid, ordinary passport)
10. Please submit any published academic papers, patents, or other academic achievements (originals or copies)

Scholarships

The Ph.D. Program in Educational Leadership and Policy (Comparative Education) for International Students is a priority for the Government of the People’s Republic of China and enjoys strong financial support for international students.

The program enrolls 6-8 international students per year, and around 3-4 will be awarded a full Chinese Government Scholarship based on academic excellence covering tuition fees and living expenses for three years.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fees are RMB32,300 per year. The total for the 3-year program is 96,900 RMB.
